Okay, now I believe it's spring!

Time to move the chicken coop for the season. Sparky is always a good supervisor.





The coop now lives in a gated community: our fenced in vegetable garden patch. A work in progress, more to come...

I love seeing this in the spring, but I'm not as persistent or bold about getting down on my tummy to take photos anymore because ticks are already everywhere! So this was the best I got:

First kayak paddle of the season (in the West River), and of all things we saw a swan!
We carefully approached, but just as I raised my camera the swan took flight. I've never seen a swan fly and it's flapping wings made an incredible sound as it flew away that we heard from quite a distance - smooth and even but strong and forceful.

Like I was saying, I'm spoiled... My quick snapshot does not do this cake justice. Made by Tim's mom, and she has perfected her recipe: 3 layers of carrot cake with walnuts, sultanas and pineapple, and lemon-infused cream cheese frosting!

I hang out with people who spoil me


(not actually a bib for eating cake, though I suppose it helped too... I forgot a smock for painting class so this worked instead)
