Forgot all about this song, but it popped into my head and somehow it works for me today.

One of my first rock albums as a kid: Abacab! I remember being so pleased when I realized during a piano lesson that a-b-a-c-a-b referred to notes on the musical scale. (Now you wanna go back and listen to the whole album, don't you?!)

Father's Day 2014

The first rhubarb pies I ever baked were for my dad's horseshoe gang when I was in my early teens. The assortment of men would pitch into the evening darkness by the light of a portable street lamp (it fit into a designated deep hole in the yard, with a long extension cord that ran into the basement), cheering or harassing each other from lawn chair seating, filling balmy summer nights with hoots and laughter. Later they would come indoors to smoke cigars, play cards and eat a snack, sometimes rhubarb pie. :)

This catalpa tree has always been a comfort to me.

I may be too late

it's been too long (as in years) since we've visited here: our special picnic spot, where Tim & I used to come when we first dated, and later where he proposed to me :)

Recently my dad found a pile of old stuff from my high school days... which included this lovely screen print done by my high school art teacher Judi Cermak (c. 1984 or 1985?). I think this was a cast-off test done on construction paper, but I remember I was so happy to receive a copy of it, it was very inspiring to me at the time - I still love the colors and stylized shapes, and daffodils are one of my favorite flowers all year.

Been on a bit of a James Bond marathon lately, in anticipation of the new film coming in November. Some of my favorite childhood memories are of watching Bond films with my dad (who has often had an air of Sean Connery about him ;) - despite the chauvinism and violence, I always loved the stylish-ness and exotic locales

creating a new home for our childhood dollhouse - which before that was my mom's - her grandfather built in for her!

Something today reminded me of the summer of 1990, when my sister & I toured through Europe with Eurail passes, one of the best things I've ever done. Most of the time we slept in youth hostels, but this one night we had the crazy idea to sleep on a beach along the south of France. As the sun set it got colder & colder - we ended up putting on every piece of clothing we had packed, and then garbage bags on top of the clothes in an attempt to stay dry - I can't even remember what it felt like in the morning! Here we are looking like dorks and having the time of our life:
